Gay scene

Yes, Seattle is chocked full of gay people, aka "GLBTQ" (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and queer, or 'questioning' dependent on whom you ask). Just this morning, my gay male partner and I had breakfast out with a dear friend of ours who is a FTM (female to male transexual).

Okay, first off, having had spent my entire life as a gay male in gay social communities in many cities, I really have no clue if the 'straight scene' in Seattle is better, the same or even worse.

In our experience as a transplanted gay couple, we've noticed that the vast majority of gay Seattleites are obcessed with what you drive, what part of town you live in, your career, and your income level. Cocktail hour can quickly begin to feel like a verbal credit application. Being a 'mixed couple' (he's white collar, I'm blue collar) here, I now know how an inter-racial couple felt, in the 1950's.

Concerning the 'bar scene', we've noticed that it's quite a clique-ish little bunch of people here, enfused with a middle school playground feeling. Outsiders of your 'play group' are not welcome into your precious little fold.

Mannors? Mostly non-existent. Condescending and snubbery? Yup.

The straight 'muscle twink' serving cocktails at the local gay leather/levi bar kept referring to me as "young man", when in fact I'm old enough to be his father.
